Colca Canyon tour with hotel
Day 1: Arequipa - Chivay - Colca Canyon.
The transport will pick you up between 7:00 AM and 8:00 AM from your hotel located in the Historic Center of Arequipa. Our comfortable vehicle will be waiting to begin the journey towards one of the deepest canyons on the planet.
Enjoy a panoramic transfer along the Yura Highway. During the journey, we'll skirt the majestic snow-capped Chachani volcano as we head towards the Andean plains. We'll explore the Salinas and Aguada Blanca National Reserve. Here, we may see vicuñas, South American camelids renowned for having one of the planet's most delicate and valuable fibers. Continuing our ascent, we'll reach the Tocra Wetlands (Bofedales), high-mountain wetlands where you can observe a wide variety of both wild and migratory birds, including characteristic flamingos, ducks, and Andean geese (huallatas).
Next, we'll stop at the majestic Mirador de los Volcanes (Volcanoes Viewpoint), the highest point of the entire route (4,910 meters above sea level / 16,108 feet). From this privileged spot, you'll have the opportunity to enjoy impressive panoramic views of a large part of the imposing Western Mountain Range.
Later, we'll arrive in Chivay, the capital of Caylloma province and the main access to the Colca Canyon. Here, you'll have the opportunity to enjoy lunch, and then we'll comfortably settle you into your hotel. In the afternoon, there's an optional visit to enjoy the La Calera Hot Springs. Their pools offer thermo-medicinal waters ranging between 95°F (35°C) and 100°F (38°C). (Entrance not included).
The evening in Chivay invites you to a dinner and folkloric show, where you can enjoy traditional dances and music from the area. Overnight accommodation in Chivay-Colca.
Day 2: Colca Canyon - Condor Sightings - Return to Arequipa.
Around 6:00 a.m., the day begins with a revitalizing breakfast at your hotel in Chivay, preparing you for a memorable sunrise in the canyon. On our way, we'll make a brief stop in the town of Yanque, where sometimes local children can be seen dancing the traditional Wititi dance near the Main Square before going to class. You'll have 10 to 15 minutes to stroll through the square, take photos, or buy snacks.
We'll continue the journey to the Mirador de la Cruz del Cóndor (Condor Cross Viewpoint). This key point is the perfect place to witness the astonishing spectacle of the Andean condor as the canyon's first thermal currents begin to rise. You'll have enough time to enjoy their flight and take impressive pictures of one of the deepest canyons on the planet.
As we return from Cruz del Condor towards Chivay, we'll stop at various viewpoints to admire the pre-Inca terraces that stretch across the valley slopes, and we'll make a stop in the traditional town of Maca. You'll have the chance to explore, contemplating its beautiful colonial churches from past eras and its genuine indigenous architecture.
We'll return to Chivay, where you'll have free time to enjoy lunch. After lunch, we'll board our tourist vehicle to begin the return journey to the "White City." We'll arrive in Arequipa around 4:30 PM, where you'll be dropped off at a central location near the Plaza de Armas or at your hotel.
